My sweet little puppy, Maggie

I'm sorry for not posting in a while. It's been a rough couple of weeks. My beloved puppy, Maggie, got very sick. She had a mass cell tumor on her rear left leg. It got very infected and despite our best efforts, she passed away on Thursday, Sept. 16. She was 8 years old. I had her since she was 6 weeks old, just a little puppy. She helped me through some rough times back then. She was the sweetest little girl I could have ever asked for and I miss her terribly.

High Head Road - Outside of PTown Painting #1

Outside of Ptown - High Head Road - 9" X 12" oil on Ampersand Gessoboard panel
Day 1 of Painting Atmosphere and Impressionist Landscapes in Provincetown, MA. Mary Giammarro was my instructor. She paints and teaches painting in the Hawthorne traditional style. We used a 1.5 in putty knife from the hardware store! (see below) I was skeptical at first but now I love it. Very loose expressionist style, so much fun and so vibrant! Stay tuned for more paintings to come. Click below to bid in the auction on dailypaintworks.com starting at only $15!

My Plein Air Setup

I thought I'd show my set up for plein air painting. It's working out really well, especially for the smaller paintings. I found an aluminum box that I got some colored pencils in a while back and use that to keep paint in. I really like this Sienna plein air paint box! It's the all-in-one version. (See photo below)
I keep my paints and brushes in the drawer underneath my palette. My palette colors are as follows:
  • Cadmium Yellow Light
  • Cadmium Yellow Lemon
  • Cadmium Red
  • Permanent Rose
  • Alizarin Crimson
  • Cerulean Blue
  • Ultramarine Blue
  • Manganese Violet
  • Burnt Sienna
  • Raw Umber
  • Lots of Titanium White
I use Winsor & Newton's Artisan Oil Painting Medium and Gamsol for my thinner.
